Noru Innes

Noru Innes (b. 1978, Finland) is a Glasgow-based interdisciplinary artist. Working across a range of disciplines - such as sculpture, text-based work, photography, collage and printmaking - her practice is grounded in subjectivity, exploring how emotional, philosophical, and socio-political experiences shape the way meaning is formed and understood.

Central to the work is the transformation of recycled, found and discarded materials into new forms and meanings. Working predominantly with objects and matter that have been abandoned, overlooked, or deemed without value, the practice explores the tension between order and instability, permanence and impermanence. Often beginning with an intuitive fragment, her process moves between control and experimentation. Through the combination of textual, non-representational and symbolic forms, materials and language are treated as unstable carriers of meaning, shaped by their histories, contexts, and associations. Meaning remains provisional rather than fixed, emerging through processes of reconfiguration, memory and the viewer's own subjective interpretation.

Noru studied Arts and Communication in Helsinki, Finland, until 2003, completed photographic studies at the University of Highlands and Islands in 2023, and graduated with Distinction from Fine Art Master’s degree studies at Glasgow School of Art in 2026.
